Dr. Brian Gibler currently serves as the Richard C. Levy Professor of Emergency Medicine and Chairman of the Department of Emergency at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. He is also Director for the Center of Emergency Care of the University of Cincinnati Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio. In September, 1999, Dr. Gibler was appointed the Medical Director for the Emergency Services Service Line for the Greater Cincinnati Health Alliance.
Dr. Gibler has been a leader and practicing clinician in the field of emergency medicine for more than 17 years. Prior to his appointment as a Professor and Chairman, he was a faculty member at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in Nashville, Tennessee and then joined the University of Cincinnati Department of Emergency Medicine in 1989 and became Residency Director in 1990. His clinical and teaching experience dates back to 1981. Dr. Gibler founded the Heart ER Program at the University of Cincinnati Hospital and served as the Director from 1991 through 1997.
Dr. Gibler is currently Co-Chairman with E. Magnus Ohman, MD, University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill for CRUSADE: Can Rapid Risk Stratification of Unstable Angina Patients Suppress ADverse Outcomes with Early Implementation of the ACC/AHA Guidelines: The CRUSADE National Quality Improvement Initiative, with over 400 hospitals participating in the United States. He is also an Editor and Referee for numerous Emergency Medicine and Cardiology journals.
In 1999, Dr. Gibler received the Hospital Hero Award from the Cincinnati Business Courier for his work on Chest Pain Centers. In 1995, Dr. Gibler was awarded the Outstanding Contribution to Research Award from the American College of Emergency Physicians, and Best Original Research Paper at the 3rd International Conference on Emergency Medicine in Toronto, Canada in 1990. He is also a member of the International GUSTO Trials Steering Committee and serves as a member of the National Heart Attack Alert Program Working Group. Dr. Gibler has published multiple articles on the early diagnosis and treatment of Acute Coronary Syndrome. He has contributed chapters to over 12 books and has written numerous articles, presentations, and abstracts in his field. He is internationally known for his efforts in creating a multicenter trials group, the Emergency Medicine Cardiac Research Group (EMCREG)-International. He is the senior editor of the book, Emergency Cardiac Care, published by Mosby-Yearbook.
Dr. Gibler holds an M.D. from the Vanderbilt University Medical School, and an Sc.B. in Biology from Brown University where he graduated magna cum laude. Dr. Gibler is a graduate of the University of Cincinnati Emergency Medicine Residency Training Program where he served as Chief Resident his senior year.
