Donald A Locasto, MD

Dr. Locasto is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of Cincinnati. He received his Bachelors Degree from Rutgers University in 1992 and his medical degree from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey – Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in 1996. He completed a combined residency in Emergency Medicine and Internal Medicine at Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh, PA, where he also completed a fellowship in prehospital Emergency Medical Services.


Dr. Locasto was appointed to the UC faculty in 2001. His interests are focused in the support of prehospital emergency medical services, which started as a New Jersey Mobile Intensive Care Paramedic in 1985. On January 1, 2002 he assumed the position of Medical Director for the Cincinnati Fire Department. He developed and is a director of the University of Cincinnati Emergency Medicine Special Operations Institute, which serves as a physician support organization for the EMS and law enforcement community. He also serves as the EMS Fellowship Director at the University.


Dr. Locasto’s other area of expertise includes Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD). He assisted in developing the Metropolitan Medical Response System in the Pittsburgh Pennsylvania Region prior to moving to Cincinnati where he plays a prominent role in the development of the regional WMD response system. He has completed the Medical Management of Biological and Chemical Casualty courses through the US Army. He has also completed the Integrated Health and Medical WMD Training Program through the Department of Justice Programs and the US Public Health Service.
